Here’s a dose of optimism in the form of an article from Penelope Trunk, if you’ve been scrounging for some holiday cheer. Apparently the unemployment rate for college grads has been at 0% for the past seven years – I’ll cheers to that stat!
I don’t think 0% are unemployed, but the news is making things seem worst than they are. A lot of people still have jobs, and if you look, you can definitely manage to find SOMETHING.
Retail and Real Estate will probably continue to hurt, so anyone in those industries should probably switch and not look back. The US economy regularly goes through big trend shifts every 5-10 years, and it seems to be happening again. Before Real Estate was hot, mortgage companies were hot, dot-com before that, and IT before that. It seemed like oil and alternative energy would be the next big giants, but that bubble is gone. I wonder what’s next (Obama is betting on infrastructure).
